Next!

Harriet Miers is out - she withdrew her nomination to the Supreme Court this morning - so who's next? You know that after the rabid right tastes blood in the water they will go bat-guano insane if Bush doesn't nominate a Thomas/Scalia clone. Anyone care to take a bet on who Bush will nominate? Alberto "Abu Ghraib" Gonzales would have been a possibility, but not after the Miers implosion. He could appoint Condoleezza Rice - in fact, that seems quite plausible if she doesn't plan on running for president in 2008. It is true that Rice has no background whatsoever in Law, but Bush is in trouble, Rice sailed through the Senate confirmation hearings the first two times, and she's the true brains behind the Bush administration - for what that's worth - and actual legal qualifications don't seem to matter much to BushCo. It will be interesting to see who Bush actually nominates and how much blood is spilled over the nomination - this time the blood might not be metaphorical...
