I am going to try to get through this without dipping into my alternative vocabulary, so this will necessarily be brief. Here's what former
Republican Education Secretary,
Bill Bennett stated on his
radio program Wednesday:
if you wanted to reduce crime, you could - if that were your sole purpose - abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down.
No need for discussion, here's the action items:
- Contact Salem Radio Network and tell them exactly what they need to do with Bennett's show (cancel it, not shove it [OK, not just shove it]).
- Contact each of Bennet's sponsors and tell them to either pull their sponsorship immediately or you will never again buy their goods or services - ever.
- Make sure that everyone you know is aware of this madness - send them this link to the letter from Congressman John Conyers (D-Spine) regarding this male-bovine fecal material.
Well, I almost made it...

Yes, there is need for more discussion here, since you left out the rest of the quote. If you included it, you probably would not have posted the typical Howard Dean "I Hate Republicans" message.
Listen to the audio - the context is plain and his intentions are clear. Oh, and by the way, Bennet has not backed down from his reprehensible statement either.
BTW, even your president condemned Bennett's words.
If there is a need for more discussion, then discuss. Have you a different opinion? Let's hear it.
Even though they were clearly taken out of context, Bennett's comments were obviously inappropriate.
But what I can’t figure out is why nobody is going after Planned Parenthood for doing, what Bennett merely commented on?
Afterall, abortion is the number one killer of Blacks. Click here to read more...
The comments were perfectly in context - even Bush says so - and they were reprehensible. And Bennett has refused to retract them or apologize. Do you think he should apologize? Do you think he should retract his words?
President Bush is doing what any politician would do. He is distancing himself from a controversy. There is no benefit for him for him in supporting Bennett on this one, only downside. (Although you will contintue to label him a racist no matter what he does.)
As for an appology... You don't want and appology. You want his his head on a platter. If he did offer one, you and the rest of the race-baiters would complain that it wasn't enough and that he should still fe fired.
By the way, when is Planned Parenthood going to appologize for targeting black babies for externmination?
I think that is a much more important question.
Yet you people claim that Bush is a man of principle - if Bennett is right as a matter of principle the Bush would back him, wouldn't he? After the long list of screw-ups who have been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom I would imagine that if Bush had any faith in Bennett's words then he'd not distance himself from them. The fact that he has distanced himself shows just how bad Bennett's statement was.
And as a matter of fact, Bennett's head on a pike would be appropriate - his words have revealed that he himself is offensive, and he cannot merely apologize for being who he is. To that extent you are correct, a mere apology would indeed be a waste of breath. Coming to realize the wrongness of his thinking - thinking that Blacks cause crime simply by being Black - confessing his wrongness, repenting and asking forgiveness would be another matter altogether. Of course, I'm not exactly holding my breath waiting for that, and in the meantime, yes, he should be fired. Immediately.
Before you start looking up in the sky for the metaphorical anvil to fall on Bill Bennett's head, let us remember who and what we are REALLY dealing with.
The only reason this quote escaped the vacuum that is far-right radio into the mainstream is that it was so far beyond the pale. The truth is you can listen to, at random, any common talking head on AM radio and they will say something to make you puke. The usual amount of time is approximately 22 minutes.
The Republican core...a good 75-80% of their base has already drunk the kool-aid. No hypothetical ruminations of genocide or ethnic cleansing, no matter how couched in disclaimers, is going to move them off their perch of pious, self-righteous myopia. If a natural disaster wipes off the map pracitically a segment of the country while the most powerful government in the world drags its feet, a few thousand dead babies that don't look like them that they think would carjack them or rape their daughters later in life isn't really going to be enough to change hearts and minds.
Nothing short of a pimp slap from the most High God is going to do that at this point.
The key to change is in helping the voiceless faceless VICTIMS of what is being perpetrated in this country realize the power they have a citizens of this country...even second-class ones.
Craig,
If we were aborting our babies like this article suggests, then white people wouldn't care. They would be jumping up and down... Abortion is an issue because this is what white people are doing. The reason our birth rate is down is because the number of teens and preteens that were having kids in our community are down, which is a good thing. It's still quite high for Hispanics, which explains why their population is increasing faster than ours. We need to be careful about believing in lies from people who think we need to be aborted anyway.

I don't think Bill Bennett was advocating aborting Black babies for any reason, including lowering the crime rate.
Statistically speaking, would the crime rate go down without the next generation of Black folk? Sure, but you could say the same for any ethnic group. The fact is if you take more people out of the population, especially young males, you'll have less crime.
Where Bill Bennett messed up is coming out his mouth specifically connecting crime rates with the presence of Black people. That, on it's face, is just ridiculous.
