False Choices

Which do you favor more: Hezbollah launching rockets into Israel as part of a "resistance" campaign, or Israel leveling the entire nation of Lebanon in a "defensive" attack?

That seems the two choices laid out by many observing or involved with the current situation in the Middle East, but is that reality?

I believe in Israel's right to exist. I also belive in Lebanon's right to exist, as well as Palestine. Granted we could talk for decades about who did what when to whom and how bad and yadda yadda yadda...but it would get us nowhere, which is exactly where we are right now.

Mahatma Gandhi said an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. A person can fully support the right of Israel to exist without supporting the current destruction of Lebanon. Likewise a person can oppose the current destruction of Lebanon without being a supporter of Hezbollah or secretly wishing for Israel's destruction.

To me, it seems incredibly disingenuous to say on the one hand that Israel is completely justified 100%, and on the other hand say it's a shame the Lebanese have to suffer the way they are right now. The Middle East crisis may be a complicated situation, but there's nothing complicated about babies dying.
